Royal River Casino celebrated its 19th anniversary of being the first Tribe in South Dakota to open a casino/gaming business. The Flandreau Santee Sioux tribal members were treated to an evening of “wining, dining and entertainment.” On Sunday, October 18th, from 5pm to 7pm tribal members were treated to an anniversary party in the Royal Room at Royal River Casino.
The Royal Room was decorated in a beautiful fall theme throughout. There were two huge buffet tables set up for “help yourself” to ho’orderves, appetizers, crackers, meat and cheese trays, veggie trays, dips, shrimp, chocolate fountain with fresh fruit to dip in, pinwheel sandwiches, etc. A feast for all to enjoy was prepared by the casino restaurant staff. Tribal members were given their champagne/wine crystal glasses etched with the Royal River Casino logo as a souvenir of the anniversary party.
The entertainment was the Gordon Bird Band, White, SD and alumni of Flandreau Indian School. The Erickson Brothers, Roger and Denny, also joined Gordon Bird to sing 50’s & 60’s music, specializing in their singing like the Everly Brothers (for those of us that can remember the 50’s & 60’s & Everly Brothers). The music was great and Sid Byrd , 93-year old tribal elder, liked the music so much he danced to the music for his own entertainment and for all the guests to enjoy too.
There were 20 cash drawings during the course of the evening, headed up by Vice-President Cyndi Weddell and Trustee III Gina Williams. Gordon Bird did the honor of drawing the names of tribal members who won $25.00 Cash prize winners were: Linda Olson, Carol Robertson, Brandon Peterson, Mark Allen, Jeannette Arnold, Laura Herrick, Angie Bird, Norman Kitto, Kelly Cavendar, Mary Rederth, Miles Roy, Gary Lovejoy, Steve Studsdahl, Charlotte Lovejoy, Clifford Allen, Vicki Anderson, Howard Allen, Bunnie Allen & Lillian Beane.
A fun evening was enjoyed by approximately 125 tribal members. Thank you FSST Executive Committee and Royal Rivers Casino staff for the fine food and entertainment.-Editor
