Leonard Johnson Hosts Retirement Dinner For Mike Greenley

Leonard Johnson, resident of Flandreau, disabled Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe, hosted a retirement meal & gathering for Mike Greeley on April 26th.

Mike recently retired from his employment as machinist of 18 years. Mike is a Vietnam Veteran and the Commander of the Bravo Akicita Honor Guard, Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe.

Leonard decided to have this event during the Healthy Start Pow Wow slated before the evening Grand Entry. He invited the Gordon Weston Indian Veterans Post and BRAVO guards, Dennis Quigley, Vet Center, Sioux Falls, and volunteer’s workers and fundraisers for the guards Carol Robertson & Amber Allen.

Leonard had Ray Redwing make an eagle claw pipestone pipe for Mike Greely and he ordered a special made star quilt for Mike. Unfortunately, a spring blizzard came through on Friday, and members of the BRAVO Guards were unable to travel in from Sisseton for the pow wow.

Leonard made roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, sweet potato pie, biscuits and upside down pineapple cake, ice tea and coffee. Approximately 15 guests enjoyed Leonard’s “stop in and eat” meal. Thanks Leonard!-Editor
