Farewell Lunch for Grant McAdaraugh

A Farewell Lunch was held for Grant McAdaragh at the FSST Health Clinic on December 19, 2011.  Grant had been with the Tribe as Diabetes Program Director for nine years and resigned to take another position at Brookings Hospital. He will be employed within the IT Department to make possible the sharing of information with Avera McKennan Hospital and patient diagnosis via computer technology.

Grant was responsible for the Diabetes Program and Wellness Center and did an excellent job for the Tribe.  He initiated the Walk/Run Event held annually during the FSST Wacipi and the Turkey Trot in November for Diabetes Awareness and Prevention.

Grant applied for and was awarded numerous grants for the Wellness Center and Clinic. Grant was at FSST Diabetes Clinic every Tuesday morning until noon.

The meal was prepared by Annie Garcia, RN at the FSST Health Clinic and famous for her delicious Philippine food. The Tribe gave Grant gifts of a star quilt and a pipestone peace pipe designed and hand carved by Raymond Redwing.  The clinic gave him gifts of a baby sister doll (there is a story and joke behind that) and a painted tile by artist Joanne Bird.

Ledora McDougle, Health Director, was emcee for the event and encouraged Grant’s co-workers to say a few words of farewell, roast or thanks.

Andy Davis read his written thank you to Grant for being his mentor while he was employed at the Wellness Center.  Grant said he will be close by and will be in touch with the friends he made during his nine years of employment with the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe. He feels certain the present staff will do a great job for the Tribe and continue with the programs for Wellness and Diabetes Prevention.
