Earth Day

On Thursday April 22, 2010 the FSST Natural Resources Department went to the Flandreau Public Schools and hosted their annual Earth Day event for students K-12.

The students enjoyed speeches from Elizabeth Wakeman the FSST Brownfields Coordinator regarding the “History of Earth Day”, as this year was the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.  Also Mark Allen, FSST GAP Coordinator spoke of “How we can protect our environment.”  All the children were great listeners and even asked and answered questions.

The FSST Brownfields Program provided the students with Earth Day T-shirts, pencils, and water bottles each was printed with the Earth Day logo and year these were passed out by Marcie Jones, FSST Brownfields Assistant, and Delores Allen, Earthwise Committee member.  They all loved getting their T-shirts and even put them on when they received them.

This is a yearly event that the FSST Natural Resources Department does and it is always great to see how much the young people are so interested in keep our lands clean and the environment safe for their future.
