American Indian Veterans Meeting With Sentor Thune's Staff

Jeannie Hovland, Tribal Affairs Advisor, US Senator John Thune’s Sioux Falls Office, visited with the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and programs on January 26th.  Sam Allen requested Jeannie to meet with him and Roger Trudell, Chairman of the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska, Francis Wakeman, Jr., Gordon Weston Indian Veterans Post. Sam is the First Commander for the Gordon Weston Indian Post.

Roger, Francis and Sam also belong to the American Indian Veterans Association. Roger was elected Regional Commander at the American Indian Veterans Conference held at Flandreau, January 10-11, 2012. Ms. Hovland gave the letter sent from Senator Thune to the VA and Indian Health Services to implement the provision of the Indian Healthcare Improvement Act (IHCIA ) so veterans get better quality of care from both agencies.  Anytime veterans have an issue that they can’t get resolved with either agency, they can contact their congressional office (s) for assistance.
