Verna Fern Ross (Snayan Mani Win “Jingles when she walks”), was born on June 6, 1924 in Granite Falls, MN; the daughter of William Ray and Eliza (Roberts) Cavender. She was baptized in the Christian faith and grew up and attended school in Granite Falls.
On June 16, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Rufus V. Ross. They resided and raised their family in Granite Falls. Verna worked for many years in the laundry and housekeeping department of the Granite Falls Hospital & Manor. She was a member of the Board of Regents for the Native American Bible College in Rapid City, SD and a member of the Upper Sioux Community Elders Group. Verna was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church in Granite Falls and loved to travel, go shopping and participate in native community events. The also participated in ‘Wisdom Steps’ and always had time for her family and friends.
Verna was a kind and caring woman and even in her physical struggles, always asked how her caregivers were doing. She was called from this life on Monday morning, November 12, 2007, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital while surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rufus, one son – John Ray Ross; several brothers & sisters; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and 2 nephews. |
