Lanny A. Ross

Born: May 30, 1934

Journeyed to the Spirit World

Lanny A. Ross, 73, of Prior Lake, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 in Lake Havasu, Ariz. Mr. Ross was a member of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.

He was born in Pierre, S.D. on May 30, 1934 to Alexander and Lillie (Brown) Ross. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked as lineman for Northern States Power and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 120.

Survivors include wife, Viivi (Metsasalu); children, Tina Quilt (Bud), Lea Anne Ross-Douglas (Ricky), Vincent Ross (Pamela), Allene Ross, Jeanne Ross, Kevin Ross (Emily), Nancy Koursh, former wife, Betty Ross; grandchildren, Aubrey Shankey (Chad) Alison Welch (Toby), Jesse Ross, David Ross, Makala Ross, John Quilt, Kenneth Quilt (Nikki), David Quilt, Sam Quilt, Daniel Jones (Fabby), Nick Goettl, Braunnae Stromenger, Deborah Decorah (Tony), Ricky Hunt (Leah), Michael Hunt, Tryston Ross, Kayden Ross, Kaleb Ross, Amanda Brewer, Chris Fields, Isaac Hall and Riley Benjamin-Koursh; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Ross and granddaughter, Nievedia Ross.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 9 after 10 a.m. at the Tiowakan Spiritual Center at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, Prior Lake, and concluding with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Spiritual Center with the Rev. Gary Cavender officiating. Honorary pallbearers included Danny Crooks, Stanley Crooks, Tom Ross, Joe Sam Ross, Roger Ross, Charlie Vig, Alex Blue, Gary Borchert, Daniel Jones, Nancy Koursh, Kaia Nelson-Goettl, Pauline Kipp, Betty Ross, Anita Wentland, Marlys Fluto. Pallbearers were Jesse Ross, Michael Hunt, Nick Goettl, John Quilt, Jerry Goettl, Ricky Hunt, Chad Shankey, David Ross. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Doncaster Cemetery, Granite Falls. Military honors were provided by the Gordon Weston Post of Flandreau, S.D.
